"It's nice to feel welcome": PlastiMould to leave UK after 30 years

It has been revealed today that the Leeds based technical plastic injection moulding company, PlastiMould, is set to uproot 1300 miles to Budapest, Hungary, after failed talks with the UK government.

Self proclaimed "proud Yorkshire-man" and CEO of PlastiMould, Graham Matthews, announced the move in a press conference this afternoon.  He stated "today is a proud and historical day" and that the move marks the 30th anniversary of the company.

As a strong remainer himself, when asked if Brexit had influenced the decision in any way, Matthews explained that he "must look after the company and it's interests" and, despite most of their clients being based in the UK, he's anticipating growth into "all four corners of the globe".

He expanded by saying that there had been talks between him and the UK government, but they had fallen through after Hungary officials offered the 70,000 square-foot site.

He stated that "it's nice to feel welcome" and suggested that the Hungarian government had gone to greater lengths to offer aid and support to the company.  Despite the new location, Matthews said that the company's "roots will always be in Leeds and Yorkshire", though he's "absolutely excited" to get on with the transition.

PlastiMould wouldn't be the only UK company to uproot and set up elsewhere.  Companies such as Dyson and Honda have both closed plants here with fears about an uncertain future due to Brexit.

Whilst Matthews' didn't comment on the current Leeds jobs, he hoped that the move could see 500 new job opportunities in Hungary, which should "underpin future growth".

The new factory will up and running by April, 2021.
